AKA Dance Audition Notice
AKA Dance is looking for 1 female dancer who is fluent in French and English for a series of school performances throughout the year. We are looking for strong dance technique, acting abilities, and a sense of fun and play!
Audition Date: Sunday, January 15, 2012
Time: 5:00 - 7:00
Location: Artists' Play, 401 Logan Ave Unit 201 Toronto(Next door of Studio 1112)

AKA School tour 2011/Dec
AKA Dance just finished our last tour for this school year. The 2010/Dec school tour, we met about 3600 wonderful students and teachers. Thanks to all the schools for welcoming us and big thanks to Prologue to the Performing Arts!
AKA School tour 2010/11
AKA Dance just finished our last tour for this school year. The 2010/11 school year was fantastic - we visited 40 schools, with 50 performances and 33 workshops and met countless wonderful students and teachers. Thanks to all the schools for welcoming us and big thanks to Prologue to the Performing Arts!
AKA Dance Awarded a Dance Ontario Commission
AKA Dance and Gadfly Dance Company have been awarded the 2010 Dance Ontario Creative Partnerships Commissions. With the support of Dance Ontario, AKA Dance will create Oh no!, a work for four dancers that will blend ballroom techniques with contemporary dance and butoh. Dancers Tim Spronk and Zhenya Cerneacov will join us for this new and exciting project which will premiere at Dance Ontario's DanceWeekend 2011 running January 22 and 23, 2011 at the Fleck Dance Theatre, part of Harbourfront Centre's NextSteps Series. www.danceontario.ca
New Creation for Children
AKA Dance is creating a new work for children with the support of the Ontario Arts Council that will have its premiere in October 2010. The piece is then set to tour throughout Toronto and the London area in November and December. To request a booking please contact Prologue to the Performing Arts - www.prologue.org.
Dusk Dances 2010
AKA Dance had a fantastic run at Dusk Dances this August. Dancer Sahara Morimoto joined Amy Hampton and Gerald Belanger to perform In a Single Bound outdoors at Withrow Park. Here is an excerpt of Michael Crabb’s review on CBC Radio: “the opening piece would get the most stars, for creativity and execution. It’s called In a Single Bound and plays in a very witty way on the theme of comic book heroes – North American and Japanese. It’s choreographed by Amy Hampton and Keiko Ninomiya and is performed by Hampton along with Sahara Morimoto and Gerald Belanger. Belanger doesn’t actually dance but he has created the terrific music and sound effects that catapult Hampton and Morimoto into the kind of athletic, high-energy antics you’d expect of comic book heroes. At one point Hampton and Morimoto are in mortal combat with Belanger hitting the sound effects in perfect synchronization as the dancers seemingly fling knives at each other. In another sequence Belanger summons up monster noises as Hampton and Morimoto – no longer enemies – combat the unseen Godzilla. You almost expect a real monster to loom out of the shadows. It works perfectly in an outdoor setting.”
AKA Dance Audition Notice
AKA Dance is looking for 1 female dancer for a week of performances of In a Single Bound in August 2010. In a Single Bound is a 10 minute work based on comic book superheroes and is performed with a live DJ.
We are looking for dancers with strong dance technique, acting abilities, musicality, a sense of fun and play and maybe a few tricks up their sleeve... We will be teaching sections of the choreography in the audition.
